Getting the Paint Color Right

Getting the Paint Color Right

Picking the paint colors for your home can leave you confused, there are thousands of shades to choose from and getting the paint color right is harder than it seems.  You start off wondering what to paint your living room and from there you wonder what shades you should paint the rest of the house. Some homeowners just throw in the towel and paint the whole house white.  If you don’t want to do that, and who does, let us help you pick the right colors for your home.

Painting the Living Room

There are three things to consider when painting the living room, the amount of light, the size of the room, and the color of your furniture.  If you have lots of natural light then you can use darker colors while balancing it against your furniture.  If you have a small space then lighter colors can make it look bigger.  You can always add an accent wall of a contrasting color to make the whole thing pop.

The Kitchen

The kitchen gives you plenty of options for adding some color from the curtains, to the granite, to the dish towels.  You can get away with painting your kitchen a neutral color, but if that doesn’t excite you can add bolder options.  Greens and yellows are common colors for the kitchen because they are food colors.  Blue is also a great option especially if you have neutral colored countertops and fixtures. Here is some help picking kitchen colors.

Painting Your Bedroom

Your bedroom is where you wind down at the end of a long day, you relax in bed and maybe read a book before falling asleep.  That means you should choose warm and soothing colors.  If you love color you may be tempted to pick something brighter, but save that for the guest room or your home office.  Common bedroom colors are lavenders, soft greens or soft blues.  If you want a blast of color then pick some bold bedding or an area rug.

The Bathroom

Lastly we come to the bathroom, most bathrooms don’t have any natural light and the room is small so you want to stick with a lighter color.  Blues and greys make up the best selection of bathroom colors.  You can take some samples home and test them out to see how they work with your tile and fixtures.  It is a small room, if you don’t like the color it is a pretty inexpensive and easy fix.
